Today's topic was "Introduction to the news, feature, and editorial writing course". In addition, it also explains the reasons for incorporating news, feature and editorial writing into the curriculum for students teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL). This material explains news writing, feature writing, and editorial writing in several aspects, namely relevance to the real world, writing skills and vocabulary development, awareness and sensitivity to the curriculum, critical thinking and analytical skills, and improving digital literacy. In the Overall section, this course explains the course title, duration and objectives.

 

Summary

• News Writing

Learning to write news articles exposes EFL student teachers to current events and real-world

issues. This helps them stay informed about global events, which is essential for being an effective teacher, as they can use this knowledge to facilitate discussions and engage their future students in meaningful conversations about the world.

• Feature Writing

Feature articles open delve deeper into specific topics, offering a broader perspective. EFL

student teachers can learn about cultural, societal, and educational issues from various angles

through feature writing. This knowledge enhances their understanding of diverse student

backgrounds and needs.

• Editorial Writing

Editorials require opinion-based wri)ng. By practising this, EFL student teachers can develop

critical thinking skills and learn to express their opinions persuasively. These skills are transferable to classroom discussions and debates, where they can encourage students to think critically and express their viewpoints clearly.
